The Tuscarora Council offers Scouting programs in Duplin, Johnston, Sampson and Wayne Counties. 


Traditional Scouting Programs

Cub and Webelos Scouting
Cub Scouting is a year-round family program designed for boys who are about 7 to 10 years old.  During their meetings, boys enjoy games, stunts, songs, crafts and ceremonies. Cub Scouts also take part in field trips, service projects and outdoor activities. Webelos, an acronym for “We'll  Be Loyal Scouts,” is for boys in the fourth and fifth grades. Boys work on activity badges that are part of an advancement program.  The Tuscarora Council supports 57 Cub Scout packs.

Boy Scouts
Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys around ages 11 - 17. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship and personal fitness qualities among youth by focusing on a vigorous program of outdoor activities. Boy Scouts take part in community service projects, advancement opportunities and extensive outdoor experiences. The Tuscarora Council supports 58 Boy Scout troops. Check out www.thescoutzone.org.
Venturing
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing uses an adventure-based program to teach the skills needed for young adults to make ethical choices, acquire leadership skills and to take advantage of opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge. The Tuscarora Council offers 12 Venturing Crews. Check out Venturing BSA.
Order of the Arrow
Order of the Arrow is part of the official camping program of Boy Scouts of America.  This honor society is made up of elected Scouts and adult leaders. The Tuscarora Council is home to the Nayawin Rar Lodge of OA. Check out more on OA.


Community Programs

Learning for Life
Learning for Life is an educational program that is conducted in schools and other community-based organizations. It helps youth meet the challenges of growing up by teaching character and good decision-making skills and then linking those skills to the real world. Unlike traditional Boy Scout programs, this program is available to boys and girls of all ages. The programs are available for kindergarten through high school.  The Tuscarora Council currently offers Learning for Life programs at:

  • Carver Elementary School, Brogden Elementary School, Fremont Stars Elementary School in Wayne County

  • Union Elementary School in Sampson County

  • Smithfield West Elementary School, Smithfield Selma High School and Polenta Elementary School in Johnston County

Exploring
Older students can benefit from Exploring, Learning for Life’s career education program. This worksite-based program is for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20. Exploring focuses on career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience. Participants are part of an Explorer Post that focuses on a particular set of career skills. The Tuscarora Council has five Explorer Posts:

  • Post 32 – Selma Police Dept.

  • Post 209 – Goldsboro Police Dept

  • Post 211 – Mount Olive Police Dept

  • Post 280 – Wayne Memorial Hospital

  • Post 500 – Faison Police Dept.
